DIY Tutorial - Spray Painted Boots

I bought these boots from New Look for £5 about 3 months ago. Basically I only bought them because they were so cheap for real suede and in my size. I wasn't too keen on the fringing or the colour but they are so comfy and easy to walk around in all day that I decided action must be taken to make them desirable.

You will need: lace or mesh fabric, fabric spray paint, something to cover your table (or take them outside), 15 minutes to complete project, 30 minutes drying time.

Firstly, I cut off the ghastly fringes. Fringes like these have there place but not in my wardrobe, not at this time.
ahhh better already!

Next I rummaged in my DIY supply cupboard and found a piece of old lace fabric and 2 tins of fabric spray paint, one in dark brown and one in gold. If I had a tin of black I would have used that but when I feel that DIY urge I have to do it NOW! so no time to go out and buy one. I have used fabric spray paint as it remains soft to the touch.  Montana Gold spray paint would do a better job.  It's not made to be used on fabric but still stays soft to the touch just the same but more intense colour.

I placed the lace over the first boot and sprayed the dark colour first. I sprayed back and fourth over the boot quite randomly as I wanted some bits of the design to be quite faded and some bits more defined. I repositioned the lace over the boot until all areas had some of a dark brown lace design on them. I then did the same with the gold paint. You don't have to be too fussy about placing the lace on the boot, a random effect looks best. The same technique was applied to the second boot.

Now all that's left to do is let the paint dry before wearing. This should only take about 30 minutes as the paint has been sprayed on so lightly.

And here we have it - a pair of lace effect boots in lovely muted colours.
I have since worn the boots in heavy rainfall on a few occasions and the paint is still perfectly intact.
This technique would also work on leather, synthetic or fabric shoes.
